10 Easy Tips to Avoiding Major Automotive Repairs

Over the years the cost to repair a vehicle keeps going up. In this case, the best offense to spending less money on expensive automotive repairs, is a good defense. Preventative maintenance can help to eliminate major repairs that could have you shelling out thousands of dollars on something that may have been fixed at a much cheaper rate. Here are the top 10 services recommends to saving money and avoiding those nasty repairs that can cost thousands.

Oil Change- This is a no brainer. Your engine is a highly sophisticated piece of equipment. Changing the oil every 3,000 miles will keep your engine operating properly. Importantly, some vehicles require synthetic oil, like the 2000-2009 Volkswagen's and Audi's. Even if you have used non-synthetic oil, these manufacturers have required synthetic due to engine claims. The bottom line is, the average cost for an oil change is $29.95 (a little more for synthetic oil). However, if you don't change your oil and your engine blows, it could cost about $5,000 to repair.

Transmission Flush- The transmission is the second most expensive unit to replace. Changing the transmission oil every 30,000 miles will keep it operating properly. The average cost to replace your transmission fluid is $100.00. On the other hand, it could cost $1,500-$4,000 depending on the transmission.

Coolant Flush- The coolant flush keeps your engine running cool and removes scale and debris from the coolant system. The freeze point and PH level becomes inadequate over time so this service can help restore them. The cost for a flush is $79.95, however you could spend approximately $500.00 to replace a radiator.

Fuel Injection Service- Every gallon of gas you use includes 10,000 gallons of air. Carbon is a byproduct of you engine running and needs to be cleaned out periodically. This will help restore the gas mileage, which you slowly loose over time. This service also helps prevent you from having to replace the injectors which is very expensive. The average preventative maintenance cost is $70.00. If you don't do your preventative maintenance it could cost $500.00

Fuel Filter Service- Changing the fuel filter can help your fuel pump work easier and prevent it from overworking itself and possibly going out. The fuel filter also becomes clogged with dirt and debris from the fuel that we use so it needs to be changed periodically. Your fuel filter service cost about $40.00. If you neglect your filters it may cost $200.00-$500.00.

Differential Service- Another one of the oils in your vehicle. If you have a 4 x 4, an all-wheel drive vehicle or rear wheel drive vehicle, you should change your axle oils to keep the drive-train working properly. The oil in these systems is similar to the oil in your engine, but doesn't need to be changed as often. Preventative maintenance for a differential is $40.00. The alternative may cost $300.00.

Air Filter Service- Changing you air filter will allow your engine to use clean air for combustion, which will keep your gas mileage where it should be. Changing an air filter every 15,000 miles will make your engine a happy camper! For $15.00 you can replace your air filter, resulting in better gas mileage a huge potential for savings.

Cabin Air Filter Service- If your vehicle is equipped with one of these filters, changing it will keep the air that you and your kids breathe clean. There are also systems out there that will clean out the air ducts which can house some pretty nasty bacteria! For $30.00 you (and your family) can breathe clean air.

Power Steering Service- The power steering unit uses an oil similar to your engine as well and should be changed every 30,000 miles. This will keep the power steering unit from experiencing any whining noises, etc. Preventative maintenance for your power steering is around $80.00. The alternative can cost $300.00.

Fuel Treatment- Along with periodically cleaning out the fuel injectors with a full system flush, you should use a pour in fuel treatment every 3,000 miles to keep the carbon from building up. A fuel treatment can cost $10.00, but you can save on improved gas mileage.

By keeping the fluids and filters in your vehicle clean, you can expect better performance out of your vehicle. The cost to maintain your vehicle varies, but the result is the same -you can save a lot of money and time by avoiding those major repairs.

Finding the Right Auto Repairman for Your Dream Car!

Copyright (c) 2014 Faircloth Automotive

An auto or car is everyone's dream. In fact, for many automotive owners, their car is their baby.
Over the years, the auto industry has grown immensely. The automotive industry consists of many organizations and auto companies that deal with the car's design, development, right to the manufacturing, marketing, and selling the car to a perspective owner. Over the years, the auto industry has gone from being a simple car industry to becoming the most important economic sector in term of revenue.

Before you go in for auto repair you need to consider the following:

• Written estimate of the repair required

• A detailed invoice of the parts and the work with the labor charges clarified

• Charges should not exceed 10% - $15.00; unless you have approved of it

• If you have asked for replaced parts to be returned, make sure you get them back

• Invoice statement stating parts used, come with 90 days minimum warranty, 3000 miles

• Right to test drive the car before full payment

• The right to return the vehicle for repair in case any warranty part is not functioning
properly

• If any questions, the right to speak to the manager

These five facts should be taken care of, so you do not get overcharged:

1. Avoid getting additional work that is not required.

2. Make sure you do not get charged for repair you do not require.

3. Do not fall for advertisements and baseless services that you do not need.

4. Do not approve to take maintenance packages that are not required.

5. Make sure you do not get charged for something that is covered by warranty.

What to do if you require auto requires repair?

If you need auto repair, you should follow these points:

1- Always go to a licensed MVR. Only a licensed Motor Vehicle Repair shop will have licensed
parts and mechanics who are not just trained, but are professionals.

2- Even if it is a small problem take your car for a checkup, or you could repent later.

3- Before going into a shop, do a little research on the shop from family and friends who have
encountered the same problem. Compare the estimates and warranties and make sure you know which
features are supported in your warranty and which is not.

4- Compare the repair shops, so you choose the best one.

5- Once the shop you are using is decided, make sure you get a written contract for the work to
be done.

Mechanic

Finding a good auto mechanic is very important. Unfortunately, not all mechanics are fit for the
job and end up taking you for a fool and empty your pockets. So here are two points that you
should remember, if ever you require a mechanic:

Find a Good Auto Technician before Hand

You might think this is silly, why have a doctor ready when you are fine? But, just like the
human body, the mechanical parts of the car can run down and will require repair. It is better you have a good auto technician before on hand ready.

How to find a good Auto Technician?

Who better than your family and friends or your colleagues? You can search online and compare technicians of various auto repair shops or call your local car clubs and get a local referral.

Automotive Repair

Automotive repair is a large industry. There are many unsuspected things that can go wrong with a car, and if you do not have a warranty, you will have to find the right repair shop to trust with your car. Another thing to consider is the amount of regular maintenance people have performed on their car each year. This would include oil changes, brake jobs, flushing of fluids, or could simply be having your tires rotated for you. This type of work is typically left to the professionals because automotive repair work takes a degree of knowledge and a lot of experience to be able to be done correctly.

One thing to watch for when you are getting your automobile repaired is to make sure you are shopping around for the best prices available on parts. If you are using a shop, feel free to check online for part prices that they claim you need. Usually your mechanic will be honest with you on part pricing, but there is the occasion that they are trying to make money of the parts you need. Another thing to look out for is that the right parts are being replaced. Getting second opinions for auto repair is a smart practice unless you use the same shop for all of your needs and they are trusted amongst your family and community.

Another misconception is that any type of auto repair will cost an arm and a leg. Many simple things break on cars instead of catastrophic failures which make it very affordable for people to have their cars fixed, instead of spending more money on a new car. A trusted mechanic will be able to tell you what is wrong with your car and the best options for you to fix it. They will also offer maintenance to prevent catastrophic fixes in the future.

Maintaining a car properly is what will keep you away from getting many automotive repairs. Have your trusted mechanic create a schedule of maintenance for you if your car does not already have one. Minor maintenance such as an oil change will go a long way in keeping your car's engine at its full potential. Maintenance is very affordable and is spread out with months and months separating you from each scheduled visit, which also helps people on a budget. The key factor either way though is to choose a reputable local repair shop for any of your automotive needs, no matter how big or small.

Fix Your Car Troubles With These Tips

Do you need vehicle repairs but like to avoid hassles? Getting the right work done on your car can be exhausting before you ever see a mechanic. It's hard to know the right place to take your car, or to know if you can do the repair yourself. Take some time to read the tips ahead to learn what you can do for your vehicle.

Inquire as to whether the mechanic has had previous experience working on your specific vehicle model before. If they have, there is a good chance they will be able to repair your car.

Before you settle on a car repair business, talk to friends and family for recommendations. Their
thoughts can make the whole search a lot simpler. Even after getting a few names, though, do your research. Check online reviews at the very least.

Have a repair shop in mind before you run into trouble. If you wait until an emergency, you may
end up going with a shady mechanic who is convenient because you are desperate. Ask friends for a mechanic with a good reputation. Then when you run into repair problems, you can trust you won't be ripped off.

Avoid rebuilt parts if possible. These parts are usually more affordable than new ones but you
have no way of knowing how reliable the repairs are. Rebuilt parts have usually been into an
accident or stopped working at some point and were salvaged and rebuilt. It is best to invest in
newer part that have never been damaged in the past.

Before seeking out a mechanic, learn about car parts' standard classifications. There are several different classifications of car parts, and these include salvage, new, and re-manufactured and reconditioned. "New" means the part was made to the manufacturer's specs, by the maker or by an independent retailer. If a part is rebuilt or reconditioned, it has simply been fixed or restored. Salvage parts are parts that have been used and haven't been altered.

Warranties can be very important when it comes to fixing expensive parts. Ask the mechanic about any warranties on parts they ordered for you. See how long that warranty lasts and get a printed copy of that contract to review it.

If you are repairing your vehicle at home you must be sure to put everything that you take off of
the vehicle in one safe place. One of the biggest problems that people run into is they lose a
part from their car and can not put everything back together. Do not let this happen to you.

You do not need to purchase a new filter every time you go in to have an oil change. The auto
repair person may show you a worn filter next to a new one and claim it is yours, but be firm and
let them know that you do not need a new one right now.

Take some time to learn about your vehicle and how it works. This can prevent your from falling
victim to auto repair fraud when you need to bring it to be fixed. It could also lead to you being
able to fix simple problems on your own, saving you a great deal of money.

Keep an eye on your transmission. If it's performing poorly, it could be the actual component, a
plugged filter, or a disconnected hose. Have your mechanic check the simple things first since
repairing transmissions can be expensive. Common issues to watch out for are no response or a delayed response when shifting from neutral to drive or reverse, hard or abrupt shifts between the gears, failing to shift during acceleration, and slippage when accelerating.

Take your owner's manual with you when you go to the auto repair shop to get work done. If someone tells you that you need to get a service after a certain amount of miles, check and see if that matches what is in the manual. If it does not, let them know that you decline that particular
service.

The confusion and discomfort of car repairs can leave you wanting to purchase a new vehicle. Take the time to make use of the suggestions and ideas in this piece. You will find that repairs for your car are not so tough to face. Keep your vehicle longer and enjoy it more through this valued advice.

Useful Car Accessories

Useful Car Accessories

The Gear Every Vehicle Deserves

Spare tyre, first aid kit, warning triangle: those things are mandatory for every car on South
African roads. If driving across the border, you may need to have additional items, such as a high visibility jacket or a fire extinguisher.

On top of obligatory equipment, many drivers lavish additional car accessories on their vehicles.
Here are some of the most popular ones, ranging from practical to flashy (and back).

Well Kitted out

Non-mandatory, but highly recommended car accessories include a basic toolkit; replacement bulbs; jack and tyre iron (if not included with the spare tyre); tow strap; and jumper cables.

Roof rack is a must for even mildly adventurous drivers, because it is impossible to fit a kayak
or a pair of skis in the boot. Cycling aficionados will want to have a specialised bike mount at
the rear of the vehicle.

The modest cell phone charger, which connects to your phone and to the cigarette lighter in order to recharge your cell phone's battery, is simply a must-have for a long trip (and for drivers who are in habit of forgetting to charge their cell phones).

Spick and Span

Believe it or not, one of the best selling vehicle accessories are… floor mats. Some
drivers are so passionate about cleanliness that they (we kid you not) make passengers wipe feet on a mat before entering the vehicle.

Other popular car care products include car vacuums, microfibre cloths and splash guards for
exterior protection. To complete the presentation of your spotlessly clean car, make the interior
sweet-scented with car air fresheners.

Passenger-Friendly

If you have a child, the proper safety seat is non-negotiable. This is one of the best car
accessories for your child and for your peace of mind (so you can concentrate on the business of driving).

And if you often drive with a pet, better get a harness seatbelt. A pet wondering around a car is
bad news, for you and for the other participants in the traffic.

A Pleasure to Drive

The modern-day drivers have at their disposal a plethora of gadgets and gizmos designed to make the driving experience easier and more pleasurable.

Practicality-wise, a GPS device is close to the top of the list. With prices of petrol soaring as
they do, no one wants to drive around looking for the right address.

Cellphone holders will save you from hunting for your handset while driving. A cheaper alternative is a dash pad, which will keep your mobile, your keys, coins, and other small things in place.

A hands-free cellphone connector is a boon when a call simply has to be made or answered, though talking on a cellphone while driving is never a good idea.

Gloves are another highly recommended accessory. The driving wheel can get really hot under the South African sun. Besides, driving gloves look cool and protect your hands from getting age spots before their time.

It goes without saying that a decent sound system is something no car should be without. However, be kind to your ears and turn the volume down.

Prettified and Protected

Many drivers can't wait to put their personal stamp on their car. Some go for flashy rims and
mags. Others opt for cutesy decals and decorations.

After you invested all that money and time on your car, you will want to protect it from theft, so
make sure that the alarms are in place and that you lock your car when you leave it.

And, above all, never let any accessory or gadget distract you from driving responsibly and
cautiously!
